Matthew Ghio, Great Rivers Community Capital Board Secretary/Treasurer/Board Member, received his law degree in 1994 from Saint Louis University and his Honors A.B. in History and Art History, magna cum laude, in 1991 from Saint Louis University. He received the David Grant Clinic Award for his work in the civil clinic during law school. Mr. Ghio is admitted to practice law in the State of Missouri, as well as U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Missouri, and the Federal and Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. He has exclusively represented workers for over twenty years in many areas of employment law. Prior to private practice, Mr. Ghio served as a law clerk in 1994 to the Honorable James H. Allen, United States Magistrate Judge, Western District of Tennessee, and in 1995 to the Honorable Robert G. Dowd, Jr., Missouri Court of Appeals – Eastern District.
Mr. Ghio is involved in several community organizations, including Landmarks Association of St. Louis, Inc. and the Justine Petersen Housing and Reinvestment Corporation. He received the 2005 President’s Award from the Landmarks Association of St. Louis. He is a member of the Missouri Bar Association, the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys, and the National Employment Lawyers Association (NELA).
Mr. Ghio lives with his wife, Laurie, in Brentwood, with their daughters Holland Elizabeth and Lia Anne, as well as two very well behaved standard poodles, Jack and Benny.
