Donald P. Doherty, Great Rivers Community Capital Board Member, is the Regional President of Montgomery Bank. He started his career as a city planner for the City of St. Charles after graduating from St. Louis University with a Master’s in Urban Affairs. Mr. Doherty was project director for various development projects in the City of St. Charles. In 1984, he became the executive director of the Grand Tower Grove Local Development Company managing and leasing retail and office space; initiating commercial real estate development, implementing private and public improvements, and establishing the City of St. Louis’ first Special Business District. After much success in the Tower Grove area, he became the executive director of the Lemay Development Corporation where he also served as the CFO. Working with the business community and the local bank, Mr. Doherty developed and implemented projects designed to improve and expand the business environment acquiring real estate and leveraging private and public funds. After receiving his MBA from St. Louis University in 1991, he was approached by the Chief Executive Office/President of Lemay Bank and asked to consider starting a new career as a banker. At Lemay Bank, he was the first business development officer interfacing with many CEO’s and CFO’s on all phases of company finance in order to obtain their primary corporate banking relationships. During his various positions in banking at Lemay Bank, South Side National Bank, Cass Commercial Bank, and Irwin Union, his portfolio grew to $60 million with direct responsibility of $23 million in deposits. At Irwin Union, he was part of a four-member lending team taking a start up bank to $135 million in assets in four years. Currently, Mr. Doherty is the St. Louis Regional President for Montgomery Bank, a family owned and operated bank. He is responsible for both the commercial and retail areas of the bank. While he has been instrumental in developing businesses and communities, he and his wife, Betty, have also nurtured little ones along the way. They have raised two children and have fostered over 72 babies, giving them a loving home until they are adopted.
