JP Awards Family of the Year to Champaign County Clients
Each year at Justine PETERSEN we honor a family who consistently demonstrates the mission of our organization – a commitment to asset building that creates enduring change for their own household, and thereby their community as a whole. This year we are proud to present the Shelby/Anderson family of Champaign-Urbana, IL as the Justine PETERSEN Family of the Year! Kennetra Shelby originally came to JP in 2020 for assistance in opening a cigar and daiquiri lounge – what is now called Shelby’s Lounge – in the Champaign-Urbana area. When JP formed a partnership with Champaign County to roll out the $2 million Covid-19 Recovery: Champaign County Small Business Microloan Fund earlier in 2023, Kennetra applied for the program. Because of such a positive experience both times with her loan counselor, Tristan Brown, and the entire JP team, Kennetra ended up referring JP to her whole family of entrepreneurs. We are now delighted to call Karla Anderson-Nolan of Rhoyalty75 Properties, LLC, Kiara Shelby of Ki To Decor LLC, Jackie Nolan of JAK Trucking, and Kenneth Shelby of a sole proprietorship trucking business – all clients! We remain grateful to Champaign County for believing in JP’s mission to make such a partnership possible. It’s clients like Kennetra Shelby and her family who drive us everyday to continue building assets, and change lives.
JP Welcomes Pat Boyle to Housing Team
Justine PETERSEN is excited to announce that Pat Boyle joins our Housing Team as a HUD certified counselor! Pat will primarily be gearing his attention to our clients with a goal of homeownership, supporting them to be well-positioned to do so through asset building counseling. Pat comes to JP after working the past five years in credit counseling, with a particular focus on mortgage loans. “My experience there gave me a deep knowledge on how the credit system works and what does (or doesn’t) matter when it comes to obtaining and maintaining a high credit score,” Pat says. Looking forward to expanding JP’s housing services, Pat began studying for his HUD certification as soon as he started. After hitting the books hard to learn the various history of fair housing laws, regulations, and various intricacies around the program, Pat officially received his certification last month. With this added specialization, Pat is now looking forward to identifying new programs and products that JP can offer clients. His biggest goal is to build out the team so that JP can be hand-in-hand with clients from beginning to closing date. With a busy start at JP, Pat isn’t anticipating much slow down over the holidays. “I’m excited to spend time with my kids over the holidays, seeing them full of Christmas spirit and happy when they open their gifts. I also usually take them skiing over the break, and that’s always interesting and fun, to say the least!”
Happy Hanukkah
This Hanukkah, Justine PETERSEN wants to extend wishes for Hanukkah sameach. We are reminded more than ever right now of the endurance of light.
Happy Birthday, Shawna and Andrew!
This week we celebrated two big birthdays at Justine PETERSEN: Chief Partnership Officer, Shawna Collier’s and Resource Development Associate’s, Andrew Barnes’! Shawna and Andrew are both creative forces at JP with enviable shoe closets. So we know they’ll be out in style celebrating this weekend.
