Resources for Women in Business Roundtable to Feature Shawna Collier of Justine PETERSEN
JP’s Shawna Collier will join leaders from the U.S. Small Business Administration and the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis Women’s Business Center for a discussion exploring the challenges faced by women entrepreneurs when starting or running their business and strategies on how to mitigate them. In celebration of Women’s History Month, the virtual roundtable, “Resources for Women in Business,” will discuss the array of resources available locally to support women business owners on their journey. Topics will include access to capital, government contracting, counseling assistance and disaster recovery for small businesses. Scheduled for March 26, 2021, 1:00 – 2:00 pm, the roundtable is free of charge. The American Rescue Plan Act was signed into law last week, meaning another round of stimulus checks are on their way. Individuals making $75,000 or less will receive $1,400 and married couples making a combined $150,000 or less will receive $2,800. The payments are phased out after those income levels, with individuals earning more than $80,000 and couples earning more than a combined $160,000 receiving no payment. To check if, when, and how you will receive a stimulus payment, you can use the IRS’ “Get My Payment” tool. All you need is your date of birth, social security number, and address. There are also instructions on what to do if you did not receive your first or second stimulus payment and a frequently asked questions section to help answer any other questions you may have. 2021 Money Smart Kids Essay Contest Now Open!
Kids in grades 6‐8 who go to school or live in the Greater Metropolitan St. Louis region are invited to submit an essay of 500 words or less in response to this year’s essay contest question:
What have been the financial implications of the COVID-19 pandemic in your community? How could we better prepare for these types of financial hardships in the future?
Three finalists will be awarded scholarships of $2,000, $1,000 and $500 and will be notified of an award via e-mail or phone call to the parent and/or teacher. In addition, each essay contest participant has the opportunity to select a non‐profit organization (i.e. school, specific classroom or community organization) to receive a $500 award if their essay is selected as one of the top three finalists! The child with the first-place essay will be named the “2021 Money Smart Kid” and will be featured in “On the Money” magazine! The top three winners will also be featured on the Money Smart St. Louis website.
