Anita Café: Where the Mediterranean Meets Modern Vibes
Since opening in June 2023, Anita Café & Bar has become a staple of the St. Louis community. It skillfully combines New American cuisine with Middle Eastern and Mediterranean influences. More than just a café, it serves as a vibrant space that celebrates life, community, and culinary excellence, inviting both locals and visitors to gather, connect, and indulge.
Anita Abdul-Karim, the visionary behind it all, arrived in St. Louis in 2020 as a registered dietitian. She was faced with a life-changing decision—return to California or stay and follow her passion. Thankfully, she chose to stay, and in doing so, she created more than just a café; she built a welcoming haven for coffee lovers, food enthusiasts, and cocktail connoisseurs alike.
Anita credits Justine PETERSEN for providing the support she needed to turn her dream into a reality. Anita Café not only boasts a beautiful ambiance and handcrafted food and drinks, but it also embodies a philosophy of embracing challenges with courage. Her advice? “Do what you want to do, even if it scares you. Chase your dreams head-on. Do it, scared.”
So, here’s to Anita, to bold choices, and to the unforgettable flavors and experiences she continues to bring to the heart of St. Louis. Thank you Anita for making History!

Sanctuary In The Ordinary (SITO) Awarded $800,000 CDA Grant for the Baden Hoffen Project
Sanctuary In The Ordinary (SITO) is excited to announce that it has received an $800,000 grant from the Community Development Association (CDA) to support the Baden Hoffen Project. This initiative aims to revitalize the historic Baden neighborhood in St. Louis, bringing new life and hope to the community.
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to our partners at Justine PETERSEN, Nahuel, and the CDA team, as well as our JP affiliate, SITO, for their unwavering commitment to advancing our mission: “Building Assets…Changing Lives.” This grant highlights the power of collaboration and a shared vision in fostering community growth and stability.
Revitalizing Baden, Restoring Hope
Baden, one of St. Louis’ historic German neighborhoods, has deep roots and significant cultural importance. However, like many older communities, it has faced various challenges over the years. The Baden Hoffen Project aims to revitalize vacant buildings and transform them into livable, vibrant spaces, bringing new life to the area while preserving its historic charm.
The name “Hoffen,” which means “hope” in German, is particularly fitting for this project. This initiative is bringing hope to local families, creating economic opportunities, and fostering a thriving community in Baden.
A Commitment to Community Transformation
At SITO, we are dedicated to transforming ordinary spaces into sanctuaries—creating opportunities, stability, and growth in places that are often overlooked. With this grant, we are taking a significant step forward in achieving that vision by ensuring that residents of Baden have access to quality housing and a revitalized community environment.
We are excited about the future and remain committed to strengthening communities, one project at a time. Stay tuned for updates as we progress with the Baden Hoffen Project and continue our journey of transforming lives through collaboration, revitalization, and hope.
Join Us in the Movement
We invite community members, partners, and supporters to join us on this exciting journey. Your engagement and support are crucial in making these projects possible. Together, we can rebuild, revitalize, and restore hope in Baden and beyond.
