Justine PETERSEN: Honored as Illinois Microlender of the Year for Second Consecutive Year
What an honor it is to be recognized as the Microlender of the Year in Illinois for the second year in a row! This prestigious accolade highlights our unwavering commitment to supporting small businesses and fostering economic growth across the state.
Tristan Brown, the head of our Illinois office, received the award this week and had a fantastic time at the event. Reflecting on the experience, he shared, “This is my second year in a row attending the event. It’s always great to be recognized at one of the highest levels for our efforts in furthering the mission. The main thing that feels good, outside of being recognized, is to be able to connect with our peers in lending from across the state and hear about the new programming and exciting new products that are in the works of being rolled out by different institutions and the SBA as a whole. All of which promote entrepreneurship and easier access to capital.”
The event provided a valuable platform for networking and knowledge sharing among professionals dedicated to advancing the field of micro-lending. Tristan highlighted the introduction of several innovative products aimed at addressing climate change, which have the potential to channel millions of dollars into the sector. These initiatives will not only bolster the green economy but also make it more accessible for everyday business owners to adopt sustainable practices.
Our repeated recognition as the Microlender of the Year in both Missouri and Illinois underscores the positive impact of our efforts and motivates us to continue our work with even greater passion and dedication. We are excited about the future and the opportunities to further support entrepreneurs and drive economic growth in Illinois.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to our team, partners, and the small business community for their trust and collaboration. Together, we are making a significant difference, one loan at a time.
Celebrating Black Business Month: Honoring the Legacy and Supporting the Future

August is National Black Business Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the invaluable contributions of Black-owned businesses to our economy and communities. The legacy of Black entrepreneurship dates back to the late 19th century and has seen remarkable achievements and resilience.
The journey of Black businesses began with pioneers like Booker T. Washington, who founded the National Negro Business League in 1900. This organization aimed to promote the commercial, financial, and economic development of African Americans. The league marked the beginning of a long and storied tradition of Black entrepreneurship.
One of the most notable landmarks in this history is Black Wall Street in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In the early 20th century, this thriving business district became a symbol of Black economic success and independence. Despite facing devastating challenges, Black Wall Street remains a testament to the enduring spirit of Black entrepreneurship.
In 2004, National Black Business Month was established to further highlight and support the economic impact of Black-owned businesses. This month-long celebration encourages everyone to shop locally and support Black-owned businesses, fostering economic growth within the community and beyond.
By choosing to shop at Black-owned businesses this August, you not only celebrate their rich history but also invest in a future where diversity and inclusion drive economic success. Join us in honoring Black Business Month by supporting local Black-owned businesses and contributing to a thriving, diverse economy.
Celebrate Black Business Month with us, your community, our city, and the nation. Together, we can make a lasting impact and continue the legacy of Black entrepreneurship for generations to come.

We Don’t Say Good-Bye, We Say See You Later!
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude and best wishes to Ellie Bozarth, one of our incredible summer interns. Ellie has been an absolute delight to have around, bringing her enthusiasm, dedication, and positive energy to our team.
When asked what she would miss the most about being here, Ellie responded, “The second-floor vibes!” She added, “They are a great, ambitious group of individuals, and I am truly blessed to get to know them. I am truly going to miss them.” Ellie has also shared that the lessons she learned and the friendships she made have brought everything together to create the best internship experience she could have asked for.
Ellie will be attending SIUE this fall, and we wish her the best of luck in her studies. Thank you, Ellie, for all your hard work and the joy you brought to our team. We will see you soon!
