Recently, we have updated and refined our organizational value statements to ensure they reflect our ongoing commitment to excellence and innovation.
Our value statements are (J)oy for the Impact, (P)eople-Focused, (H)ard-Working, (R)esponsible, and (C)hange-Oriented. These five values define JPHRC and represent our core identity. This week, we begin with the letter J, focusing on Joy for the Impact. We extend our gratitude to Claire Schell for her invaluable assistance with all of these initiatives.
The Ripple Effect of Empowerment: Celebrating the Joy for the Impact and Success in Credit Building at Justine Petersen Housing and Reinvestment Corporation
At Justine Petersen Housing and Reinvestment Corporation (Justine PETERSEN), our mission to bridge institutional resources with the needs of low- to moderate-income individuals and families is more than just a statement; it’s a commitment to creating lasting, positive change. This mission drives every aspect of our work, particularly our focus on credit building. The true joy of our impact is seen in the successes of the individuals and families we serve, and the broader community transformations that follow.
Empowering Through Credit Building and Financial Education
Credit building and financial education are at the heart of our services. We understand that a strong credit history is foundational to accessing financial opportunities, securing stable housing, and achieving long-term economic stability. By providing individuals with the tools and knowledge to improve their credit scores, we open doors that were previously closed to them.
The Broader Impact on Homeownership and Entrepreneurship
Credit building is not an isolated service; it is integral to our broader mission of promoting homeownership and entrepreneurship. A good credit score is often a prerequisite for obtaining a mortgage or business loan. Our clients who have successfully built their credit are in a stronger position to pursue these opportunities.
The Community Impact
The impact of our credit-building efforts extends beyond individual successes to the broader community. As more individuals achieve financial stability and creditworthiness, the entire community benefits. Improved credit scores lead to increased access to housing, better employment opportunities, and a stronger local economy. This ripple effect fosters a culture of empowerment, self-sufficiency, and community resilience.
Celebrating Success and Looking Ahead
As we reflect on our achievements, we celebrate not just the milestones reached by those we serve but also the collaborative efforts of our dedicated team and partners. Every success story is a testament to the power of our mission and the importance of our work. Moving forward, we are committed to expanding our reach and enhancing our services to create even more opportunities for low- to moderate-income individuals and families.
The joy for our impact at Justine PETERSEN lies in the enduring change we facilitate through credit building and financial education. By empowering individuals to build strong credit histories, we help them achieve financial independence and contribute to the collective well-being of their communities. It is the collective success that fuels our passion and dedication to our mission, inspiring us to continue making a difference, one individual and one community at a time. We offer an excellent tool called My Credit Compass to get your credit where it needs to be. Contact Cameron Stuhl for more details at cstuhl@justinepetersen.org.
The C.O.O. of Justine PETERSEN Sheri Flanigan-Vazquez was on News 2!

In case you missed it, last night, Sheri Flanigan-Vazquez, our Chief Operating Officer, was featured on Fox 2 News at 9:00 PM to discuss an exciting new initiative aimed at assisting St. Louis residents. The new fund, set to roll out later this year, is designed to help individuals who have been driving with expired temporary tags on their vehicles.
In her interview, Sheri detailed the purpose and scope of the initiative, emphasizing its goal to provide financial support to those who need it most. Eligible individuals will be able to apply for loans to cover the costs associated with updating their vehicle registrations. Importantly, these loans are structured with the understanding that recipients will need to repay them, offering a manageable way for residents to become compliant without immediate financial strain.
“We will be setting up a loan fund dedicated to (the) City of St. Louis residents that are delinquent in their registration, property taxes, or insurance,” said Sheri.
For more details on this new fund, you can read our press release or watch Sheri’s interview on the Fox 2 News website. We are committed to supporting the residents of St. Louis and are excited about the positive impact this initiative will bring.
Stay tuned for further updates as we approach the fund’s official rollout later this year.

Interestingly, did you know that a teacher from St. Louis is credited with founding LGBTQ+ History Month? Rodney Wilson, a high school teacher at Mehlville High School, initiated the idea, seeking greater acceptance and awareness. He wrote his first article published by the Missouri Historical Society about gay history in 1994. His efforts have led to the recognition of LGBTQ+ History Month in countries around the globe.
