Andrew BarnesThe JP UP date

Number 246                        October 27, 2023                                   St. Louis

For anyone, being around 25 years will bring about certain milestones and celebrations. At Justine PETERSEN, we are fortunate that this is not only true for us as an organization, but also the many clients’ and partners’ we have worked with in that time. It is our honor to continue serving the community through credit building, homeownership, and microenterprise. Our 2022 Annual Report highlights the incredible things that can happen when individuals and families are given the response of “Yes.” Justine PETERSEN began in honor of our namesake’s belief and dream of leveraging credit as an asset to transform the economic impact of a household. It is with great joy that we can now say over 40,000 people and 11,000 small businesses have benefited from our deployment of more than $207M in 25 years. JP Honors the Legacy of Dr. Gena Gunn McClendon

Justine PETESEN is sad to learn of Gena Gunn McClendon, PhD’s passing on Saturday, October 21st. Dr. McClendon was a longtime colleague and partner to many at JP through her work at Washington University of St. Louis and the Center for Social Development, where she served as Director. JP COO, Sheri Flanigan-Vazquez remembers Dr. McClendon as “a compassionate and methodical practitioner who furthered the field and work of asset-building capabilities for low and moderate income households.” Dr. McClendon also did great research on voting, and in 2021 it was profiled by NPR. We are grateful for Dr. McClendon’s many contributions, and our deepest condolences are with her family during this time.
